Ta Van: Yellow butterfly appear heavily, attracting visitors
The
tour guides in Sa Pa have recently told each other to take visitors to the
bamboo forest of Giang Ta Chai hamlet,Ta Van commune
(Sa Pa) to witness the heavy forest butterfly.
We were in the bamboo forest in the morning
of 23 May 2012, and to all of our surprise, we saw thousands of yellow
butterfly flying around a wide area.
The bamboo forest in Giang Ta Chai hamlet, Ta
Van commune is about 15km from Sa Pa town. However, visitors have to cross two
km on foot to come to the forest and watch this phenomenon.
Mr. Nong Van Xieng, a peasant of Giang Ta
Chai said: This is a strange phenomenon which has never been seen in this area.
This type of butterfly also appeared many years ago, but they were so little.
However, since 22 May this year, the yellow butterfly appears so much and only
in this bamboo forest.
Also said Mr. Xieng, the butterfly appear
without any harm for people, but it attracts a lot of visitors. To our vison,
all the butterfly in the bamboo forest are the same. Their wings are brown
yellow with wide size. There is a line of black dots in the upper part and
lower part of the wings. The butterfly often gathers in one area, while they
are on the defensive, they fly so fast.
Engineer Nguyen Van Hung, Head of department
of flora protection of Lao Cai province said: this is a kind of butterfly with
the scientific name Stichophthalma Howqua, which is a life circle of the worm
living in the bamboo forest. The heavy appearance of them is due to the nice
weather. This butterfly will give birth to the worm which eats leaves, but they
are no harm for the agriculture of peasants, so there is no need to worry.
The scientists of museum of nature of Vietnam
have come to Sa Pa and do the research of this butterfly.
